The Frog and the Mouse

Those who seek to harm others often come to harm themselves through their own deeds.

A young Mouse searching for adventure was running along the bank of a pond where lived a Frog. When the Frog saw the Mouse running, he swam to the bank and croaked: "Won't you visit me? I can promise you a good time if you do."

The Mouse did not need much coaxing, for he was very anxious to see the world and everything in it. So the Mouse Said to the frog, " Thank you, I shall love to accompany you, while I can swim a little, but it would be better if I can get some help, without which I am scared I shall probably drown".

The Frog thought and said, " Mouse, I shall tie s tough reed's one end to your leg and the other to mine. I hope that shall be safe enough for you." After the Mouse was satisfied with the safety arrangement, they jumped into the pond. The Frog was dragging his foolish companion with him. The Mouse soon had enough and said: " let's get back you to the shore."

However, the treacherous Frog had other plans. The Frog pulled the Mouse down under the water and drowned him. And soon, the dead Mouse blotted and came to the surface of the pond. The Frog somehow was unable to untie the reed that bound him to the dead Mouse.

Seeing the body of the Mouse floating on the water, a Hawk came sailing over the pond and swooped down, seized the Mouse and carried it off, with the Frog dangling from the reed tied to its leg.

Moral: Those who seek to harm others often come to harm themselves through their own deeds.
